Life's Sunset ~ painting and verse by Natalie Ducey
A Soul's Journey, Inspiration, The Heart's Lullaby

Living a life of gratitude … no regrets, no desire to rewrite one page.Β πŸ’• #RRBC #LoveWhatYouDo

Cheers, everyone!

First, I just have to say that I can’t stop smiling as I write this. It’s impossible and that’s an awesome feeling! In relation to world events, this is rather minute. But to me, this is a day of celebration as I mark another milestone of my art journey. In an earlier post – Following Your Passion – I shared how this journey began.Β β™₯

A little introduction … I love sunsets. The beauty is majestic, tranquil, and soothes my soul. The fact that I’m able to witness this miraculous event is never lost amidst the details of my day. To me, it’s divine.

This verse is from the poem titled “Our Wedding Day” in my second collection of poems The Heart’s Lullaby.

β™₯

When life’s sunset falls upon us

In our book, we’ll write our final page

We will smile with humble gratitude

…no regrets, no desire to rewrite one page.

β™₯

I wanted to pair the verse with a sunset, so I set out to paint one.

Tada….

Sunsets and seascapes are referenced quite frequently in my writing. I was born and raised on the island of Newfoundland, Canada. I moved to Ontario in 2005, when my husband was posted here with the Canadian Armed Forces. Although inland, we are blessed to be near the water.

I use a painting program called ArtRage along with my Wacom digital tablet. Abstract Art is not as simple as it sometimes looks. The program I use simulates oil and watercolour painting – wet canvas, paint thinner, brush size and texture, amount of paint on said brush, and also cleaning the brush (yup, there’s a water bucket that makes a swish sound when you clean your brush. lol). If not, you’ll get colours mixing in not such a nice way. This is a screenshot of a canvas and you can see all the settings.

This opened a whole new world to me. Gone were the excuses like: I’d loved to be able to paint, but there’s just no room for a studio; and it’s waaaaaaaay too costly, too messy, yada yada …. You get the idea, right? Excuses be gone. Freedom of spirit soars free!

We can’t put a price on this kind of joy. We can’t, and nor should we. There’s no tangible currency to measure it.

But guess what? All these goodies cost less than $200! I kid you not. And that’s in Canadian dollars, folks! We’re .77 cents to the US dollar. But I digress. Sure, it can get costly if you need all the bells and whistles. But this version of ArtRage comes FREE with the Wacom tablet. Touchdown! And, as a newbie, I’m not missing the bells and whistles because I don’t know what they are! πŸ™‚

It’s funny how these treasures appear when we allow ourselves to follow our heart’s calling. No more resisting. We have a tendency to justify the essentials, and dismiss the rest. Why do we assume these gifts to ourselves aren’t essential? They are, my friends. They are the very definition of it.

…no regrets, no desire to rewrite one page.Β β™₯

Cheers and much love to all. XO

  3. I love sunsets and, especially, seascapes. And I think it’s wonderful that you’ve found something that inspires you with digital painting. When I had more time on my hands I used to do digital scrap-booking, which enabled me to add embellishments, textures and brush elements to old photos. I have a passion for old photos and it was a wonderful creative outlet.

Lovely verse today too, Natalie. Your posts are always filled with enthusiasm and cheer. πŸ™‚
