Greetings, everyone! ♥
As bloggers, we’re always striving to share engaging content with our readers. Images are a fantastic way to convey a message and are a key element when blogging. I recently discovered how to add an image Slideshow using Gutenberg and a feature available via the Plugin Jetpack!
I love the concept of featuring an image slideshow for so many reasons. In my slideshow below, I included images I designed for my quotes, poetry, and even added a few book reviews!
For fellow author friends, I think this is a fantastic way to share snippets from the lovely reviews we’re grateful to receive. ♥
If you’re not familiar with Jetpack, it’s worth your while to check it out. Jetpack offers security, performance, and site management tools for WordPress. As of today, there are four Jetpack plans:
- Free
- Personal
- Professional
- Business
To learn more about features and pricing, you can visit their website Jetpack.com.
The Jetpack Plugin is FREE to download and use. You can download the Plugin via WordPress.org here. With the Plugin installed, we can use the Slideshow feature. And it’s FREE!
Blogging with Gutenberg and Jetpack
This is the fourth post in a series I’d like to refer to as Grooving with Gutenberg! For those who are not quite sold on the Gutenberg editor, I hope this series of posts offers encouragement to jump on board.
The Gutenberg editor has so many awesome features, but it gets better. There are numerous Plugins we can use with Gutenberg. Harnessing these tools together offers amazing options to create engaging content. AND they are free and super easy to use.
In previous blog posts, I introduced features I discovered using the WordPress Plugin Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg. You’re most welcome to check out the posts here ~ Blogging Tips.
In today’s post, I’m setting out to introduce the Image Slideshow feature using the WordPress Plugin Jetpack. This feature works perfectly in Gutenberg. ♥
When we add and activate the Jetpack Plugin, we’ll see it listed in your Block Categories, as shown in the image below.
When we open the Jetpack Category, we see a variety of options. For this tutorial, we’re using the Option ~ Slideshow.
First, we add a Block. If you’re not sure how to add Blocks in Gutenberg, you’re most welcome to pop by my previous post ~ Getting Started with Gutenberg ~ A How-To Guide for Creating Engaging Blog Posts with Gutenberg.
Once we add the Slideshow Block, we’ll see a Slideshow box like below.
From here. we can upload an image or choose an image from our Image Library. Once we add an image, it will create a Gallery like below. We can Edit Gallery and Add to Gallery. We can rearrange images as we wish. When ready, we click on Insert Gallery (bottom right).
When we click on Insert Galley, we’ll see the Slideshow begin in our editor. To add more images, we just have to click on the Slideshow and then we’ll see +Upload an Image. Easy peasy!
To the right, you’ll see a list of elements we’ll be using. Each element has its own drop-down menu. If you don’t see it, click on the Settings tab on the right of the Publish tab.
Then click on Block.
Let’s customize our Slideshow. Under the Block settings, let’s click on the Autoplay tab. Here we can customize the transition speed of our images.
I set my Autoplay to 4 seconds. Visitors can also pause the Slideshow. Bonus!
Next, let’s click on Effects and set the transition effect. We can choose the transition effect -Slide. As you can see from my image slideshow above, I chose the slide effect.
Or we can choose the transition effect – Fade.
And we’re done!

Cheers, fellow bloggers! We’re grooving along with Gutenberg and Jetpack.
I hope this post proves helpful. I love the concept of featuring an image slideshow for so many reasons.

Natalie, I love how you’ve been calling this series ‘Grooving with Gutenberg’! What a postive approach and you explain everything so clearly! Great screenshots along the way and explanation. Talking to a friend the other day people are writing courses for WordPress and charging a small fortune – and here are you so kindly and eloquently describing many aspects of the new editor. Thank you so much! xx
