Have you ever tried to upload your eBook MOBI or ePub file to your Media Library in WordPress only to receive a notice that the file type is not supported? Problem solved, my friends! β₯
In today’s post, I’m delighted to share a solution I discovered on my quest to find a way to upload my eBooks as an ePub file and a MOBI file. If you’re an author and want to sell your work via your website, this post is for you.
Or maybe you’d like to offer your work, in either an ePub or MOBI file format, as a giveaway or an incentive for visitors to subscribe to your mailing list. If so, this post will show that it’s possible. Yup, and it’s FREE!
WP Extra File Types is a WordPress Plugin that enables users to upload other file type extensions that WordPress alone does not allow.
WP Extra File Types
After we download and activate the WP Extra File Types Plugin, we’ll see the list of file formats that can be uploaded using this Plugin.
We can always deactivate and remove the Plugin if we no longer require its use.
You’ll see WP Extra File Types listed in your Plugins, as shown below.
Once the Plugin is installed, we’ll need to go to Settings to finalize the setup.
Under Settings, you’ll see Extra File Types, as shown below. Let’s click on it.
The setup is a simple process.
First, we have two options to choose from:
- Check only file extensions
- Skip WordPress checks
In my case, I selected the “Check only file extensions” box. Your preference may be different.
Next, we’ll look for the ePub and MOBI file extension types. There are so many file extensions to choose from. They are listed alphabetically.
I checked the ePub file extension.
I checked the MOBI file extension.
We can also add custom file types.
Ta-da … now we’re good to go!
How to Add a MOBI or ePub File
Adding our MOBI or ePub file is a quick and easy process using the WP Extra File Types Plugin.
NOTE: To add a file that others can download, we’ll need to insert the file URL. This step is essential, as it’s the URL link that enables the actual download.
We can do this by uploading, accessing, and then choosing the file from our Media Library.
Once we upload the file to our Media Library, we’ll then need to select it and either copy the link and paste it in the applicable area (ideas shared later in this post) or click on the Insert File URL.
Copy URL Link or Insert File URL
Ideas for Adding a MOBI or ePub File to Blog Posts or Pages
We can offer our MOBI or ePub file in a few ways. A few ideas are:
- Using the Gutenberg Editor, we can add a Button Block found under Layout Elements.
- Using the Plugin ~ Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg, we can create a Call to Action Button.
- Using the WooCommerce Plugin, we can add our Ebook as a Hand-picked Product.
- We can also link the eBook download file to text.
If you’ve been searching for a way to upload an ePub and/or MOBI file to your WordPress website or blog, exploring the WP Extra File Types Plugin worked for me!
I hope this post proves beneficial. Have a tip or idea you’d like to share? Please feel free to leave a comment below.
Until next time… happy blogging, my friends! β₯

Natalie, I hope you’re putting a ‘how to’ book together with all your great instructionals! Also, I want to know how you make the images with the fun fonts. Are you able to use the downloaded fonts on places like Canva? <3
Natalie Ducey says
Cheers, Debby! I create all my designs in Photoshop. If you have a Canva Pro account, you can upload fonts to Canva. Here’s a How-To Guide. Hope this helps. π
Upload custom brand fonts with Canva Pro:

Oh, thanks Natalie. I don’t have a pro account on Canva, so I guess that means I can’t download the fonts. π I can’t seem to download them to my blog either :(. So I can only get them in Word. So disappointed. Thanks anyway π xx
