Have you seen an animated typewriter text graphic and wondered how they did that? If so, this post is for you! ♥

Canva is a game-changer for creating beautiful graphics. With its easy-to-use templates, you can easily design graphics for Social Media, Marketing, and so much more.

In this short tutorial, we’ll go through the steps of creating an animated typewriter text graphic in Canva. We’ll create both an MP4 Video and a GIF file. ♥

Let’s jump in. ♥

You’ve created your graphic and want to add a Typewriter Animation to your text.

First, you’ll need to select the text box you want to animate. Then click on Animate, as displayed below.

When you click on Animate, you’ll see the numerous Text Animations on the left. There are so many cool animations to choose from.

For this tutorial, let’s click on the Typewriter Animation option. You’ll see further options.

You can select the Animation to be displayed on both Enter and Exit, or just Enter or Exit.

You can choose the Speed of the Animation. You can also choose to have the effect on each Character or the complete Word.

The next step is setting the timing of the animation. For one image, it defaults to 5 seconds. This can be too fast depending on the length of the text.

NOTE: To access the Timing clock, click outside your graphic.

To adjust the timing of the animation, click on the clock icon and insert the number of seconds you’d like to set it for and press Enter.

For my graphic, I changed the timing to 7 seconds.

TIP: I also used the slowest speed in the Animation effect. This is often best for the Typewriter Animation effect.

Once you selected your Animated Timing, let’s download your design.

To do this, just click on Share, then Download.

You’ll see File Type. To maintain the animation, you can choose MP4 Video or GIF. Then click on Download.

And you’re done!

What a great tutorial, Natalie. I have canva but haven’t used it much. Still rely on the old standby Word. Lol. This is a nice touch though for graphics. Thanks for the idea. I just might have to try it. 🙂

As a multi-passionate creator my heart is rooted in storytelling, self-expression, and soulful connection. I’m a writer of poetry that journeys the deep emotional landscapes of life—the vulnerability and valour of the soul.
My creativity extends beyond the page. I love creating soothing, sweet melodic melodies. Where the silence between the notes soothes the soul, and the tenor and tone seem to transcend time. I find comfort and joy in the art of crochet, and the free artistic expression of graphic design—each medium offering a unique way to inspire, uplift, and connect with others on their own creative journeys.
Nature is my sanctuary. In its tranquil beauty and quiet wisdom, I find restoration, reflection, and a deeper connection to the soul. It’s where I return to breathe, to listen, and to simply be.
This space is a celebration of creativity in all its forms. Creativity, for me, is more than expression—it is transformation. It is how we return to ourselves. Whether you’ve arrived here for a spark of inspiration, a moment of peace, or a sense of belonging—I welcome you!
