Have you ever wondered how to take a screen recording of your iPhone?
We see screen recordings displayed on social media platforms, blog posts, commercials, etc as they are used frequently in digital marketing.
They are fantastic for sharing a visual of various forms of content.
A few ideas:
- Displaying a website in responsive mode (a fluid layout that displays well on a Phone).
- Sharing tutorials that involve Apps and other digital content from a Phone.
- Showcasing products from an online shop with a guided tour of the easy checkout process.
- An idea for authors! We can promote our work by showcasing the ebook version in use (tutorial coming up!).
In this tutorial, I recorded a short video of my Instagram profile and opened an Instagram story from my Social Media Highlight Cover.
In the video below, you’ll see my screen recording and I’m using an iPhone Mockup.
More on mockups at the end of this post.
How to Screen Record on an iPhone
Let’s go through the steps for activating the Screen Recording feature on an iPhone. No Apps are needed. It’s a built-in feature. Easy peasy!
First, open your Settings menu.
Under Settings open Control Center.
Scroll down and you’ll see the Screen Recording feature. Tap the green + to add it.
The Screen Recording feature will display in your list. If you’d like to remove it, just tap the red icon.
To access the Screen Recorder, swipe up or down (depending on your iPhone model) to access the Control Center panel.
The red circle is the Screen Recorder. Tada!
Tap it to begin recording. There will be a three-second countdown.
Swipe down to exit the panel.
Open the App or the content that you’d like to record. The red line indicates that it’s recording.
NOTE: The red line may or may not display depending on the App or content you’re recording.
Tap it to stop recording.
*Or swipe up!
Your Screen Recording will be saved in your photos.
When you view your Screen Recording, you’ll notice the Edit option located in the top right corner.
Tap Edit to make any changes.
There are various editing features.
I usually make a few tweaks.
When you’re ready, tap Done.
I edited my short Screen Recording and saved it.
Ideas for use?
So many possibilities. I shared a few ideas for content recording and sharing at the start of this post.
Using an iPhone Mockup
Using an iPhone Mockup, we can easily display our screen recording in a more realistic setting.
There are so many iPhone Mockup templates available in Canva.
All you need to do is choose your template (all social media sizes available), edit text, colours, etc., then drag and drop your video file.
If you haven’t uploaded a video file to Canva before, it’s much like uploading an image file. (Uploads > Upload Media > Videos).
You can easily view the templates here or via the link below.
Also, if you’re logged into your Canva account, just type “iPhone Mockups” in the search bar and you’ll see all the templates available. You can narrow down your search by using the filters: Category, Style, Theme, and Colour.
The image below is the iPhone Mockup I created and used for this post. I added my video in Canva.
I then uploaded it to my WordPress Media as a video file.
You may notice it has a “swipe left” element/icon. This is the first image in a carousel how-to post I’m sharing on Instagram.
