If you’re looking for a way to Record Your Screen and Webcam Simultaneously, Record Your Screen with Audio only, Record Your Screen without Audio, or perhaps Webcam only. this post will take you through the steps to do so.
No software to download. It’s super easy, and it’s FREE. Jackpot!
How to Screen Record in Canva
In this tutorial, we’ll be using the Studio feature in Canva. If you’re using Canva already, you’re good to go. If you’re new to Canva, you can easily create an account for free here or click on the link below.
Here we go. ♥
First, open a template design to be able to access the Recording Feature referred to as the Studio. Any template will do.
However, if you’d like to edit your recording immediately, I suggest opening a blank video format template. You can find them here. Or, from Canva’s homepage, go to Templates > Videos. You can also type Video into the search bar.
Once you have a template open, you’ll see the left-side panel, as displayed in the image below.
To access the Studio, click on Uploads > Record Yourself.
This brings us into the Studio.
You’ll see the Microphone, Video Camera, Screen Sharing Icons (camera only and screen share), and Save and Exit located in the top right corner.
Let’s go through the steps together.
You’ll notice we can choose Camera Only or Screen Share.
NOTE: If we want to use both, we have to click on Screen Share first.
Screen Sharing Setup
When you click on Screen Share, you’ll see a similar image as below.
Here we Choose what to Share. We can share Entire Screen, Window, or Browser Tab (I’m using Chrome).
NOTE: The aspect ratio size of your video recording will be different with each option. This is important to keep in mind if you’re creating videos for a particular platform. For example, the Entire Screen size is an ideal fit for YouTube videos (16:9 aspect ratio).
Choose from the options, then click on Share.
This will open a new window with the page that we’re Sharing.
We’ll know what window we’re sharing as it will indicate it on the top left corner of the window, as displayed in the image below.
Let’s return to the Studio to complete the setup process and begin recording.
We’re back in the Studio.
Camera Setup
Next, click on the Camera Icon. You’ll see two options. You can turn off the camera here.
NOTE: You will not see the No Camera option until you choose your Screen Sharing Source, as covered in the previous step.
Using the Front Camera, you’ll see the circle frame around our Webcam profile. It’s pretty cool because this Webcam frame/video will be recorded and can be moved independently from the screen recording. You’ll see how after you Record and Save. Give it a try!
The No Camera option.
Microphone Setup
The final step is to click on the Microphone Icon and choose your Source. You can always choose no microphone, too. Bluetooth works, as well.
When you’re ready, click on Record. There will be a three-second countdown.
Return to the window you’re Sharing.
When you’re finished with your recording, return to the Studio and click on Done.
Once we click on Done, we’ll see our video recording display as below.
If we want to Delete our video, we can click on the trash can icon.
To save, click on Save and Exit.
Our video(s) will be saved in our Canva Videos.
You’ll see it downloading. It will also display in the template that we’re using at the time.
Editing Video Recording
NOTE: If we’re using a Webcam, there will be two downloads. The audio is with our Webcam video file.
If the template we’re working with is a video template, as noted at the beginning of this post, our video and audio will be displayed in our template and we’re good to go.
However, if we’re recording our Screen and Webcam using a different template (as I did) with the idea to do the editing later, just keep in mind that they are two separate video files.
In the image below, you can see an example of a Screen Recording for which I also used a Webcam. They are downloaded as two separate video files. It gives us the flexibility to edit them separately and then bring them together for a final video. It’s not necessary, but it’s a great feature.
We can layer our Webcam video on top of the Screen Recording. We can use a frame element (any shape) and drag and drop our Webcam video file into the frame element.
It may take some experimenting, but it’s an awesome way to develop and present an edited, final video.
If you’d like to edit the video(s), open a video file template in Canva and drag and drop your video file(s) in the template. Canva’s Free Online Video Editor is a fantastic, easy-to-use tool. We can then save and download our edited video file as an MP4 Video file.
Canva also offers fantastic tips for Video editing.
Download Video Recording
We can also download our video recording directly from our Canva Videos as a WEBM file by clicking on the three dots located in the top right corner of the video thumbnail.
And we’re done!
If you haven’t been using this feature in Canva, I hope this post encourages you to do so. It’s a fantastic tool to use for tutorials and video creation. For more Canva tips stop by ~ Creative & Design Tips!
