In today’s design tip, we’ll create a Progress Bar, Progress Ring, and Progress Dial, in Canva.
In just a few quick steps we can easily create a custom design for each.
How to create Progress Bars, Rings, and Dials in Canva!
In this tutorial, we’ll be using elements in Canva. If you’re using Canva already, you’re good to go. If you’re new to Canva, you can easily create an account for free here or click on the link below.
Progress Bars and Ideas for Use
Progress Bars are fantastic tools in our visual world. We can use them as visual indicators of our progress or a process that we are working towards. We often see them used in presentations and marketing material.
Idea! If you’re a fellow writer/author, you can highlight your current Work in Progress (WIP) and share the graphic on social media and/or in a blog post, etc.
If you’re using Twitter, share your design with the hashtags #writerslift, #writerslife, and #writingcommunity. I love the engagement and connections made using #writerslift and even include it in my profile description. Feel free to tag me @NatalieDucey and I’ll gladly retweet/share your news!
Another idea is to display your graphic on the sidebar of your blog/website using a widget and update it as you move forward with your goal(s). There are so many ways and reasons for using this type of visual aid.

Let’s get started. ♥
Once you’re logged in to Canva and have a template open, go to Elements, scroll down to Charts, and then click on See All.
Elements > Scroll down to Charts > Then click on See All.
Select a Chart.
It will open a panel, as displayed below.
We can change the Percentage here, set the Line Weight, turn on the Percentage Label, and turn on Rounded Endpoints.
We can change and customize our colours and font style and size, as displayed below.
Once we have a design created, we can easily change the style and format.
To view and access the other formats, click on the down arrow, as displayed below.
From here we can choose another format from the options.
Below is a sample of a Progress Ring.
Here’s a sample of a Radial Progress Bar.
And we’re done!
Canva is a fantastic creativity and marketing tool that makes design fun, and it’s free!

Hi Natalie, any idea how to add 3 sections to the radiul progress bar? It seems like it is limited to 2.
Natalie Ducey says
Cheers, Windermere. Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, I don’t know any way to have more than two. It would be an awesome feature for sure. If I find a fix, I’ll definitely share it. Have a great day!
