If you’re on Instagram, you’ve most likely viewed an animated Instagram Story. Perhaps you’ve shared one or maybe you’re curious and eager to do so. Great news, my friends! We can easily create a beautifully designed animated story in minutes … and it’s free!
If you’re not using Instagram Stories, I encourage you to give them a try. You’ll see that they are a valued means to engage and build meaningful connections.

In this tutorial, I’m sharing how to use the Hype Type App to create Animated Instagram Stories. Its ease of use makes it a fabulous tool to use on Instagram and other social media platforms.
Hype-Type: Moving Text Photos

Hype-Type: Moving Text Photos
Below is a 10-second Instagram Story I created for this tutorial.
When we open the Hype Type App, we’ll see that we can use our camera or swipe up to access our photo library.

This is the photo I’m using from my library.

Once we take or choose a photo, this is how it will look.
The settings on the bottom enable users to edit text, crop, and customize the animations and transitions.
Let’s double-tap to edit text.

In the image below, you can see how we add our text. Easy peasy. We can use 100 characters.
When we’re done, we tap the blue checkmark.

Let’s tap T for text style.

From here, we have many options to choose from:
- We can view and select our preferred text animation.
- We can select our colour palette. Each palette offers three colours. We just tap the colour palette to view the alternate colours.
- We can add a background colour to text by tapping the dropper icon.

To edit the transition options, let’s tap the icon with three parallel lines.

From here we can:
- Select the text display speed
- Add music
- Select the animation speed

Let’s tap the T yellow block to select the text speed.
We can tap and view each speed. Once we make a selection, we tap the blue arrow to save. We can always return to change afterwards.

We can add music to our video by taping the purple + ADD MUSIC.

From here we can search for music to use.

When we find the music we’d like to use, we just tap USE IT and it will add the music to our video.

Next, let’s tap the green block to set the animation speed.

From here, we can view and select the animation speed.

We can edit any of the settings. For example, to remove music, we just tap the X.

To collapse the menu, we tap the blue arrow.

To complete the design, we tap the blue checkmark.

When we’re done, we have a few options.
We can:
- Download
- Upload to Instagram
- Upload to Facebook
- Upload to Twitter
- Start Over

And that’s it!
TIP: I often download my animated design to my phone and post it to Instagram using the Instagram Story App to increase engagement. Feel free to pop by my blog post to see how you can do the same.

Until next time … happy creating, my friends!
I’ve been wanting to start doing this. Hype Type isn’t available on my phone, but I will see what is. Thanks, Natalie!
Cheers, Denise! I added it via the App Sore on my iPhone. It’s a free App. Score! The link to the App is in my post. Hope this helps. 🙂
OMG, Natalie, I don’t know how you keep up with all of these platforms and the different options available. I haven’t tried Instagram Stories yet (I have a hard enough time remembering to share photos there, LOL). You make it sound so easy. I’ll have to bookmark this post for when I have more time to experiment. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Mae! I’m so grateful to have the opportunity and time to explore and learn these platforms. Once I learn something new, I’m eager to pass it along. I haven’t written anything in some time, though. We need more hours in the day! Thanks a bunch for your kind words and for bookmarking, too. That’s awesome and the golden words all bloggers love to hear. Have a fabulous day, my friend! 🙂
How are stories different than photos? I get lost in all these social media terms, lol
Cheers, Jacquie! I hear ya… there’s sooooo much to access and learn. Feel free to pop by my blog post – How to Use Instagram Stories. I highlight the differences between Instagram posts vs stories.
