In this post, I’m delighted to share a short video tutorial as well as step-by-step images to guide you through the process of creating a beautiful Marble Texture in Photoshop. In just a few steps, you can easily create this design in multiple colour variations.

Step-by-Step Guide ~ How to Create Marble Texture in Photoshop
Let’s jump in.
First, we’ll open a new document.
We’ll go to File > New.
We’ll set the Width at 1500 pixels, Height at 1500 pixels, Resolution at 72, and RGB Color Mode. This is great for digital graphics. If you’re creating them for print, set your Resolution to 300 to ensure quality printing.
This is what our blank canvas will look like.
We’ll set our foreground and background to the default black and white.
To default, click on the tiny squares and they will change to black and white, as displayed below.
Our first step is to blend the colours together.
We’ll go to Filter > Render > Clouds.
Our second step is to separate the colours to begin the marbling effect.
We’ll go to Filter > Render > Difference Clouds.
Next, we’ll adjustment the Levels to further lighten the darker areas. We’ll see the marble effect take shape.
We’ll go to Image > Adjustments > Levels.
To create the soft marble texture, I decreased the Input Levels to the numbers below. To do this, I clicked on the right pointer triangle and dragged it all the way to the left.
Next, we’ll Duplicate this layer. We can easily do this by right-clicking on the Background layer and then click on Duplicate Layer.
Next, we’ll need to rotate the new layer. This will give the marble texture more detail.
We can easily rotate the layer by selecting the new layer. Then go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 degrees Counter Clockwise.
We are almost done!
Next, we’ll change the Layer Mode of this new layer.
With the new layer selected, let’s change the Layer Mode to Lighten. This gives us the soft marble look.
Next, we’ll merge the two layers together.
To do this, let’s hold the Shift key and click on both layers. Then right-click and you’ll see a new window with various options. Let’s click on Merge Layers.
Now we’ve merged both layers and are working with one layer.
We can add/change the colour of our marble texture by adding a Solid Colour layer.
We’ll go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Colour.
We’ll see a Colour Fill layer above our background layer, as displayed below.
Let’s double click on the square colour box (the first box in the new colour fill layer). In the image below, the colour box is pink. The colour box may appear black at first.
After we double click on the coloured box, we’ll see the Colour Picker open. We can choose any colour or enter a hex#. Then click OK. I chose a light pink colour.
We’re almost done!
The final step is to change the Layer Mode of this Colour Fill Layer to Soft Light.
In the image below, you can see how the marble texture is now a rose gold texture. We can create so many colour variations of our marble texture by changing the Colour Fill Layer, as demonstrated in the previous step.
And we’re done!
I saved this as a PSD file so I can easily revisit/open it and create a new marble colour. Easy peasy!
We can easily save/export the design as a JPEG or PNG file and use in any image editor.
Marble textures are fantastic for creating beautiful graphics and can be used as backgrounds for designs and iPhone wallpaper.
NOTE: You don’t need Photoshop to use these files. Nope. If you use Canva, you can easily upload the files to use as a background, etc. for your designs.
You’re most welcome to download these free design assets and use them for your own creativity and designs. I include numerous graphics and textures in my FREE Resource Library. If you’d like to download these free files, please pop by.

Hi, Karen, thank you, for this. When creating these cool designs, what program do you use? I don’t seem to have the same program. ☹️

Hi, Joy! Thanks for stopping by today. To create the design, I use Photoshop which is a graphic design program. However, you don’t need Photoshop to use the freebies. I hope this helps. Cheers! 🙂

No wonder, Natalie. I always try to use the word doc. and that frustrates me because I can’t see all the features you have. I will try to add photoshop to my laptop. Thank you.
