Have you ever wanted to edit a PDF document without having to use Adobe?
In today’s digital tip, I’m sharing a solution! ♥
Canva is my go-to design tool for social media graphics. With its easy-to-use templates, we can easily design graphics for social media, marketing material, and so much more.
Followers of my blog know how much I love this platform.
If you’re not already using Canva and would like to give it a try, you can easily create a free account here, or use my referral link below.
I usually share tips on the design process, but just recently I discovered a solution for editing a PDF document without a subscription with Adobe. Nothing against Adobe.
In Canva, we can import, open, edit, save, and download a PDF document. Jackpot!
NOTE: A PDF that has been flattened (individual elements are saved as one so text cannot be copied or modified directly) cannot be edited via this method.
The PDF document below was imported and edited in Canva!

A few ways to Import a PDF Document into Canva
There are a few ways to import/upload a PDF document into Canva.
When you’re logged into Canva, click on Create a Design. This will bring up a list of options. On the bottom, you’ll see Import File.
Your imported PDF will be located in your Recent Designs, as displayed in the image below.
Another way is to click on the Upload Icon in the Search bar located on the template page. You’ll see Start from a File. You can upload it here.
You can also upload it from Canva’s Home page. You’ll see the Search bar, as displayed in the image below. You can upload it here, as well.
How To Edit a PDF document in Canva
To edit the PDF, click on the design to open.
You’ll see all the text and formatting tools, as usual.
We can edit any element by selecting it. I’ve selected the text below. We can change the font, size, colour, etc.
To edit any of the elements, just click on them. Easy peasy!
I’ve added hyperlinks to a few elements.

Downloading a PDF
When you’re done, you can easily save it and download it as a PDF.
And we’re done!
NOTE: If you are importing a PDF document with hyperlinks, check to make sure they are still linked. I noticed a few breaks with the imported hyperlinks on occasion. It’s always good to double-check!
At the beginning of this post, I included a PDF I edited in Canva.
