QR Codes are fantastic for their ease of use and are a valuable marketing tool. We can create QR Codes to link to our website, social media profiles, online shops and products, author profiles, and more.
Just recently, I discovered we can do this within WordPress, and followers of my blog know how much I love sharing these tips! ♥
In today’s digital tip, we’ll access and create a QR CODE directly from blog posts in WordPress.
In just a few quick and easy steps you, too, can easily access and create a unique QR Code and include it with digital graphics for promoting your blog posts. ♥
What is a QR Code?
A little information… the QR is short for Quick Response. QR Codes are a type of barcode that is readable with digital devices like smartphones.
In a nutshell, they store information (ie. website, social media profiles, etc) that can be easily accessed by simply using the phone’s camera to read the QR Code.
If you’d like more information on QR Codes and their origin and use, Business Insider shares a fantastic post ~ What is a QR code? A guide to the barcode’s basics, why you’re seeing it everywhere, and how to scan one.
Scanning a QR Code
To scan a QR Code, we just line up our camera to the QR Code so all four corners are in view. The phone will automatically take a snapshot and we’ll see a visible link to the data that is stored in the QR Code. We tap the link and tada… we’re instantly directed to the source!
NOTE: To access QR Codes with your iPhone, you’ll need to turn on Scan QR Codes in your Camera Settings, as displayed in the image below.
How to access and create a QR Code in WordPress
Let’s get started. ♥
My web hosting is with BlueHost. To access the QR Code in WordPress, I’m using Jetpack.
If your hosting is with a WordPress.com paid plan, you’ll have this feature in your plan. You’re good to go! It may be an available feature via the free plan, too. I’m just not sure at this time.
To access the QR Code via Jetpack, open a published blog post.
NOTE: You can also access the QR Code immediately after you schedule a blog post. I did this to use it in my featured image for this blog post. I simply scheduled my post, downloaded the QR Code, created my graphics in Canva (uploaded the QR Code as an image file and dragged/dropped it onto my graphic), and then updated my blog post with the featured image.
For this tutorial, I’m using a published post ~ FREE Blogging-to-Success Resource Guide for Bloggers and Website Owners!
I opened my blog post and now have access to the dashboard settings for this post.
In the top right corner, you’ll see the green Jetpack icon.
Click on it to view and open all the options.
Under Jetpack you’ll see the options:
- Shortlink
- Social Previews
- QR Code
- Likes and Sharing
Click on the dropdown arrow for QR Code.
You’ll see the Get QR Code.
All we need to do is click on it.
This will display the QR Code.
You’ll see the Download option.
Easy peasy!
We can easily add this QR Code to our graphics. For tips and alternatives for accessing and using a QR Code in graphics and marketing material, feel free to pop by my blog post ~ How to Create and Add a QR CODE to graphics in Canva!
And we’re done! ♥
I hope this post proves helpful and, if you’re not using QR Codes in your designs and marketing material, it encourages you to make use of this valuable tool.

Like Harmony, I used to create a lot of QR codes with a web-based generator. I don’t use them as much as I used to, but it’s nice to know that WP has that capability. Great share, Natlaie!
