Sometimes a single moment of noticing can alter the way we move through the world.
This new series of one-word reflections has grown in the space between two collections I am writing now, A Hundred Ways to Hold Her, rooted in healing and self-compassion, and Tapestry of Voices: When Nature Speaks, rooted in wonder, interconnection, and the living wisdom of the natural world.
My hope is that these offerings become small places of return, bringing moments of peace, perspective, and pause in a world that often forgets how to be still.

May your Heart hold Release
There are moments so quietly woven into the living world that they could pass entirely unseen.
Nothing announces their arrival. Nothing asks us to stop. And yet, every so often, we find ourselves present for something that seems to hold a vastness far greater than the moment itself.
Perhaps what makes these moments sacred is not their rarity, but the depth that becomes visible when we are fully present to them.
This poem emerged from one such moment. ♥
The Lone Leaf and I
This morning, in the quiet of early light,
I watched a lone leaf release from its branch.
Small, its edges curled slightly inward,
bearing the quiet trace of a season lived.
There was no great wind, only enough air to receive it,
and for a few suspended seconds it turned and floated,
rising slightly, falling again, almost playful in its movement,
carried through the space between what it had been
and what it was becoming.
It had spent its life reaching toward light, held among branches,
moved by rain and wind and summer,
and now, as though guided by some ancient knowing,
its time upon the branch complete,
it released into the air.
I became still before it,
held in the kind of silence
that comes when something ordinary
suddenly feels sacred.
The warmth of my coffee in my hands,
morning light moving through the trees,
the cool air against my skin,
the same air cradling the leaf
in its falling.
Nothing in that moment felt separate.
The lone leaf in its faithful descent,
and I, its lone witness.
Stillness was the only way
I knew to honour it.
I felt the devotion in that falling,
a quiet faithfulness to the ancient movement
of one form giving way to another.
An entire mystery
has unfolded.
And there I was,
given the grace of witnessing
what might otherwise
have passed unseen.
What an immeasurable gift,
to be alive within this living world,
to witness a moment so easily missed
and feel the vastness held within it.

What has stayed with me is how much was held within a moment so easily missed.
I felt a quiet devotion in the leaf itself, in the freedom of those few suspended seconds, no longer held to the branch, not yet returned to earth, as though this one brief flight were a sacred passage between all it had been and all it would become.
Perhaps what moved me so deeply was the absence of separation in any of it. Its time upon the branch had come to completion, but nothing about its leaving placed it outside the life to which it belonged. Even in release, it remained held within something larger.
We often understand endings by what is no longer there. A season passes. A leaf falls. Something takes a different shape, and we name the moment by what has been lost from sight.
But sitting there that morning, I felt something else.
I felt continuation.
The leaf would never again be exactly what I had witnessed in those few seconds of flight. That particular expression of its life was complete. And still, nothing had vanished. What had been held by the branch was now held by the air, soon to be received again by the earth, continuing within a world where nothing exists entirely unto itself.
There is something deeply humbling in knowing that these passages are happening around us constantly, whether we witness them or not. An immeasurable unfolding of life, so much of it occurring beyond our notice.
And every so often, we are there.
Present enough to see.
Perhaps that is part of the sacredness I felt that morning. Not that I was needed for the moment to matter, but that I was here to recognize that it did.
To see one small leaf, and within it, glimpse the vast belonging of everything. ♥

This space is an offering of presence.
Words shaped through listening, reflection, and reverence.
A place where becoming is honoured, and the voice remains true.
